Some of the best ideas come from collaboration, and brainwriting is aimed at facilitating inspiration. Plus, when ideas are co-created with multiple owners, there is a greater chance of follow-through!

How it worksšŸ‘‡

The process can take as long as you need but we recommend between 30-45 minutes.

  1. Write or show the topic you want to generate ideas for in a space where it is visible to everyone on the team. You can draw a picture as well if you want. An example could be "Making the employee breakroom better", or "Marketing ideas for new products".
  2. Give each team member an index card or paper to write on, and ask them to silently write down their ideas on the topic.
  3. When they are done generating ideas, ask them to pass their card to the person on their right(or left whichever works for you).
  4. Ask the team members to think about the idea card they just received as "Idea Inspiration". Then ask them to add a new idea to the card or enhance the idea already written. Then they should pass it along again.
  5. Repeat this process until there are various ideas on each card.
  6. Once everyone seems to be finished collect the cards and put them where they are visible to the team. Have the team members approach and write a star next to the ideas they find most compelling.
  7. Discuss!

If you are an online team, you can adapt this workshop to your online tools. The main goal is to generate ideas and allow your team to collaborate on or be inspired by each other's ideas.
